Nuclear Regulatory Commission Amends Regulations for Spent Fuel Storage Casks

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has revised its regulations to allow for the storage of certain spent fuel assemblies in accordance with new technical specifications, including those from the Maine Yankee site, under the NAC International Universal Storage System (NAC-UMS). This change aims to facilitate the storage of damaged or consolidated fuel and extend the time for cask loading operations.
