U.S. Secretary Amends Federal Student Loan Programs to Expand Eligibility for Economic Hardship Deferments

The U.S. Secretary has updated the regulations for the Federal Perkins Loan and Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) programs to automatically qualify certain Peace Corps volunteers for economic hardship deferments while serving in the Peace Corps, and to eliminate the need for borrowers to submit a written request for loan deferment in the Federal Perkins Loan Program.
