Atlantic Tuna Fisheries: General Category Subquota Attained, Fishery Closed

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has closed the General category fishery for September due to attainment of the 1997 Atlantic bluefin tuna subquota, which was reached on September 13, 1997, at 11:30 p.m. to prevent overharvesting of the adjusted 195 metric tons subquota for the September period.
