FCC Issues Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (Further NPRM) addressing alleged deficiencies in industry-developed technical requirements for wireline, cellular, and broadband Personal Communications Services (PCS) carriers to comply with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994 (CALEA). The FCC aims to establish technical requirements or standards to meet the assistance capability requirements, as the industry or standards setting organizations have failed to set such standards, or if any party believes that an industry standard is deficient.
