Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Requirements for Physician Incentive Plans in Prepaid Health Care Organizations

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a final rule amending regulations for physician incentive plans in prepaid health care organizations, affecting Federally-qualified health maintenance organizations and competitive medical plans contracting with the Medicare program, as well as certain health maintenance organizations and health insuring organizations contracting with the Medicaid program. The rule, which was finalized on March 27, 1996, with a comment period, aims to improve the quality of care in these organizations.
