FAA Proposes to Rescind Mode S Transponder Requirement for Some Aircraft Operations

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing to remove the requirement for Mode S transponders for certain aircraft operations, citing the effectiveness of existing surveillance enhancements and the removal of the assumption that Mode S would be the sole method for air traffic control data link.
