Makah Indian Tribe Seeks Authorization for Eastern North Pacific Gray Whale Hunting in Washington State

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) plans to prepare a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in response to the Makah Indian Tribe's request to hunt eastern North Pacific gray whales in their usual fishing grounds off the coast of Washington State, following the termination of a prior draft EIS.
