NMFS Proposes Second Fishing Capacity Reduction Program for Bering Sea Groundfish Fishery
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is proposing a second fishing capacity reduction program, also known as a 'buyback,' to repay a $2.7 million loan for a single permit in the Longline Catcher Processor Subsector of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands non-pollock groundfish fishery, with the goal of permanently reducing fishing capacity at the least cost and increasing productivity for remaining permit holders.
