DOE Releases Draft Evaluation on Vitrification Melter at West Valley Demonstration Project

The Department of Energy (DOE) has made available a draft evaluation indicating that the vitrification melter at the West Valley Demonstration Project in New York is not high-level radioactive waste, but rather waste incidental to reprocessing, which can be managed as low-level waste. The DOE is seeking public and state comments on the draft evaluation before making a final determination.
