NMFS Proposes Threatened Status for Ringed Seal Subspecies

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has proposed listing four subspecies of the ringed seal as threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973, with a public comment period set to end on March 25, 2011, and public hearings scheduled in Anchorage, Barrow, and Nome, Alaska.
