U.S. Navy Gets Permission to Use Sonar for Marine Mammal Training

The U.S. Navy has been granted permission by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to use sonar for training purposes, despite concerns about the impact on marine mammals, as part of the Atlantic Fleet Active Sonar Training (AFAST) program, which runs from January 22, 2010 to January 21, 2011.
