NMFS Proposes Regulations to Implement Shark Conservation Measures and Vessel Monitoring System Requirements

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is proposing regulations to implement shark conservation measures and vessel monitoring system requirements in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, as required by the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC). The proposed rule would require U.S. longline vessels to release sharks safely and make manual reports in case of a malfunctioning VMS unit.
