EPA Grants Temporary Exemption for BLB2 and AMR3 Proteins in Potatoes

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a temporary exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of BLB2 and AMR3 proteins in potatoes, used as a plant-incorporated protectant (PIP) under Experimental Use Permit No. 8971-EUP-3. This exemption, submitted by J.R. Simplot Company, eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of these proteins under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), set to expire on March 31, 2024.
