FRA Extends Comment Period for Proposed PTC Regulations

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has extended the comment period for a proposed rule (NPRM) to amend regulations governing positive train control (PTC) systems, which will close on January 11, 2025. The NPRM aims to address temporary situations where PTC technology is not enabled, such as initialization failures or maintenance, and establish strict parameters for safe rail operations.
