NRC and Connecticut Agree on Regulatory Authority Discontinuation

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the State of Connecticut have signed an agreement allowing the state to assume regulatory authority over certain nuclear materials, effective September 25, 2025. The NRC will discontinue its regulatory authority over these materials, which include byproduct materials, source materials, and special nuclear materials in quantities not sufficient to form a critical mass.
