Expand the Definition of a Public Assistance Household

The Social Security Administration (SSA) proposes to expand the definition of a public assistance household for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as a means-tested public income maintenance program. The proposed rule aims to decrease the number of SSI applicants and recipients charged with in-kind support and maintenance, as well as reduce administrative burden for low-income households.
