FDA Permits Hydrogen Peroxide as Food Additive, Bans Sulfur Dioxide

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is amending its food additive regulation to allow the safe use of hydrogen peroxide in food as an antimicrobial agent, oxidizing and reducing agent, and bleaching agent, while removing sulfur dioxide, in response to a petition from Cargill, Inc.
