FMCSA Permanently Mandates External ABS Malfunction Indicator Lamp on Trailers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has made permanent the requirement for trailers with antilock brake systems (ABS) to be equipped with an external malfunction indicator lamp, as mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2009. This move aligns the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) with the FMVSSs, ensuring trailers meet safety standards for ABS malfunction detection.
