Optional Exceptions to the Prohibition Against Treating Incarceration as Voluntary Unemployment Under Child Support Guidelines
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Child Support Enforcement is proposing a change to the child support guidelines, allowing states to exempt cases where an individual is incarcerated due to non-payment of child support related to a criminal case or civil contempt action. This change would provide states with more flexibility in handling these cases, and would apply to both the individual's current and past child support cases.
