U.S. NRC Grants Exemptions to Southern Nuclear for Vogtle Plant

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has granted exemptions to Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. to use a risk-informed approach to evaluate debris in containment following a loss-of-coolant accident at the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2, in Burke County, Georgia, instead of a traditional deterministic methodology. This decision responds to a request submitted by SNC on August 17, 2020, and subsequent letters on December 17, 2020, and February 15, 2021.
