FCC Proposes Amendments to 5.9 GHz Band Rules

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed amendments to its rules for the 5.9 GHz band, allowing unlicensed devices to operate in the lower portion of the band and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) operations in the upper portion. The proposal aims to maximize the effective and efficient use of the 5.9 GHz band by exploring alternate spectrum band approaches, including the introduction of new vehicular safety communications technologies.
