EPA Reissues NPDES General Permit for Offshore Oil and Gas Extraction Facilities in Gulf of Mexico

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reissued a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for oil and gas extraction facilities in the Gulf of Mexico, allowing them to discharge produced water into the ocean. The permit, GMG290000, went into effect on October 1, 2017, and covers existing and new sources and dischargers in the Offshore Subcategory.
