Requirements of the Vessel Monitoring System Type-Approval

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is proposing to amend the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) Type-Approval regulations to remove the requirement for periodic renewal of Enhanced Mobile Transmitting Unit (EMTU) or Mobile Transmitting Unit (MTU) type-approvals. This change aims to reduce unnecessary costs and time associated with the renewal process for fishermen, VMS vendors, and the government.
