NRC Approves Indirect License Transfer for Wolf Creek Generating Station

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved a proposed merger between Westar Energy, Inc. and Great Plains Energy Incorporated, resulting in a new entity, Monarch Energy Holding, Inc., which will hold a 94% interest in Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation and the Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit 1, while Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. retains a 6% ownership stake.
