Pipeline Safety: Expanding the Use of Excess Flow Valves in Gas Distribution Systems

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is expanding the use of excess flow valves (EFVs) in gas distribution systems to include multifamily residences and small commercial entities, in addition to single-family residences, in an effort to reduce the risk of accidents.
