FMCSA Seeks Public Comment on New Prime, Inc.'s Request for Exemption from CLP Accompaniment Requirement
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has announced that New Prime, Inc. (Prime) has submitted an application for an exemption from the rule requiring commercial learner's permit (CLP) holders to be accompanied by a commercial driver's license (CDL) holder in the front seat while operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) on public roads. Prime is seeking to allow CLP holders who have passed the CDL skills test to drive CMVs without a CDL holder in the front seat, with the CDL holder remaining in the vehicle at all times.
