The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a final rule with a comment period to revise the Medicare hospital outpatient prospective payment system and ambulatory surgical center payment system for 2016, implementing statutory requirements and updates to quality reporting programs. The rule also addresses changes to the 2-midnight rule for short inpatient hospital stays and payment transitions for Medicare-dependent, small rural hospitals.
