NOAA Implements Seabird Avoidance Program for Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has implemented a Seabird Avoidance Program in the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery to minimize the take of endangered short-tailed albatross. The program, recommended by the Pacific Fishery Management Council in 2013, requires vessels over 55 feet in length to use seabird avoidance measures when using bottom longline gear to harvest groundfish.
