Federal Trade Commission Requests Public Comment on Proposed Statement of Policy Regarding Communications in Connection With Collection of a Decedent's Debt

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking public input on a proposed policy statement addressing communications between debt collectors and individuals who have authority to pay debts from a deceased person's estate, as well as clarifying how to locate the correct person to discuss the debt and emphasizing the importance of not misleading consumers about their personal obligation to pay the debt.
