NMFS Prohibits Trawl Gear Use for Pacific Cod Retention in Gulf of Alaska

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has prohibited catcher/processors in the Gulf of Alaska from retaining Pacific cod using trawl gear in the Central Regulatory Area, due to the 2014 total allowable catch limit being reached. This decision aims to prevent overfishing of Pacific cod in the region.
