NMFS Withdraws Proposed Rule for Weakfish Fishery, Citing Equivalent Federal Regulations
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has withdrawn a proposed rule that aimed to modify weakfish regulations in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to align with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's (Commission) Interstate Fishery Management Plan (ISFMP). The decision is based on the conclusion that existing federal regulations are already conservationally equivalent to state regulations, rendering changes to current EEZ regulations unnecessary.
