NRC Amends Regulations to Remove SGI-M Designation for Certain Facilities and Materials

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is updating its rules to exempt large irradiators, manufacturers, and distributors from the Safeguards Information--Modified Handling (SGI-M) designation, as well as the transportation of small quantities of irradiated reactor fuel, from the SGI-M category, and will instead apply standard information protection requirements.
