OSHA Delays Compliance Deadlines for Beryllium Exposure Rule in Construction and Shipyards
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is finalizing a rule on occupational exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds in construction and shipyards, delaying compliance deadlines to September 30, 2020, except for permissible exposure limits (PEL) and short-term exposure limits (STEL), which have been in effect since May 11, 2018. The agency is not adopting a portion of the proposed rule that would have revoked ancillary provisions, citing concerns about worker protection from health risks associated with beryllium exposure.
