CMS Adopts Standard for Unique Health Plan Identifier, Updates ICD-10 Requirements

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized a rule that establishes a national unique health plan identifier (HPID) and updates requirements for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition (ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS) medical data code sets, with a new compliance date of October 1, 2014.
