EPA Raises Concerns Over Environmental Impact of Two Major Projects
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has expressed concerns over the environmental impact of two major projects: the NorthMet Project, a proposed open-pit mine and processing facility in Minnesota, and the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System project, a concentrated solar power tower in California. The EPA has requested additional information and has raised concerns about the potential impacts on surface water, groundwater, and wetlands, as well as the adequacy of the environmental impact statements (EIS) and financial assurance for closure and post-closure care.
