Systems for Telephonic Notification of Unsafe Conditions at Highway-Rail and Pathway Grade Crossings

The U.S. Department of Transportation has issued a final rule requiring certain railroads to establish and maintain systems that allow the public to report unsafe conditions at highway-rail and pathway grade crossings via a toll-free phone number. The rule mandates the creation of an Emergency Notification System, which includes signs at grade crossings, a phone reporting system, remedial actions taken by railroads, and related recordkeeping.
