FAA Mandates New Helicopter Route for North Shore of Long Island

Summary

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has implemented a new rule requiring helicopter pilots to use the New York North Shore Helicopter Route when flying along the north shore of Long Island, New York, in an effort to reduce noise disturbance over nearby communities. The rule, which was added to the New York Helicopter Route Chart in 2008, will lapse in 2 years unless the FAA determines that a permanent rule is necessary.
