U.S. Department of State Adopts New Passport Security Surcharge Fee of $80, Reflecting Increased Security Costs

The U.S. Department of State has finalized a rule increasing the passport book security surcharge from $60 to $80, which will generate an additional $318 million in revenue to support enhanced border security, following a 37% increase in security-related costs for passport adjudicators and NextGen passport book printing technology.
