FCC Denies Petition to Reconsider Channel 87B Vacate Period and Declines to Extend to Non-AIS Operations

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has denied a petition for reconsideration of the deadline for inland VPCSA incumbents to vacate Channel 87B, and declined to extend this period to non-AIS operations, citing concerns that such an extension would undermine the primary goal of the proceeding. The FCC also determined that rechannelizing the VPC frequency band to facilitate more efficient spectrum usage is beyond the scope of this rulemaking proceeding.
