Proposed Suspension and Modification of Nationwide Permit 21

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is proposing to suspend and modify Nationwide Permit 21, which authorizes surface coal mining activities, to prohibit its use in six Appalachian states until March 18, 2012. The agency will hold public hearings in the affected states to gather more information.
