Annual Determination of Average Cost of Incarceration

The U.S. government has set the average annual cost of incarceration for federal inmates in Fiscal Year 2008 at $23,882, down from $25,895 in Fiscal Year 2008. This represents a decrease of $1,013 per inmate.
