NMFS Authorizes Green-Stick Gear for Atlantic Tuna Harvest, Revises Sea Turtle Control Devices

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has finalized a rule allowing the use of green-stick gear for harvesting Atlantic tunas, including bluefin tuna, while requiring the use of sea turtle control devices in pelagic and bottom longline fisheries to minimize sea turtle mortality and ensure safe handling of turtles caught in longline gear.
