EPA Sets Emission Standards for Nonroad Spark-Ignition Engines and Equipment

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is establishing emission standards for new nonroad spark-ignition engines, which will significantly reduce emissions from these engines, starting in 2010 for marine engines and 2011 and 2012 for land-based engines. The new standards are expected to result in substantial reductions in pollutant emissions, including 604,000 tons of volatile organic hydrocarbon emissions, 132,200 tons of NOx emissions, and 5,500 tons of particulate matter emissions, leading to significant reductions in ground-level ozone formation.
