U.S. Commerce Secretary Approves Revised Secure Hash Standard, FIPS 180-3

The U.S. Secretary of Commerce has approved the revised Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 180-3, Secure Hash Standard, which replaces the previous version, FIPS 180-2. The new standard includes five secure hash algorithms for use in computing condensed representations of electronic data, and removes outdated technical information about the security of the algorithms.
