NMFS Issues Final Rule on IFQ Referenda Procedures for New England and Gulf of Mexico Fisheries

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has issued a final rule outlining guidelines and procedures for the New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (GMFMC) to determine voting eligibility requirements for referenda on Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ) program proposals under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. The goal is to ensure fair and equitable IFQ program referenda in the New England and Gulf of Mexico fisheries.
