New U.S. Rule Aims to Enhance Fire Safety in Underground Coal Mining
The U.S. Department of Labor has released a final rule addressing fire prevention and detection in underground coal mining, building on recommendations from the Technical Study Panel established under the MINER Act of 2006. The rule sets standards for flame-resistant conveyor belts, training, and equipment, including airlocks, smoke sensors, and carbon monoxide sensors, to improve worker safety.
