Carriage of Digital Television Broadcast Signals; Implementation of the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act of 1999: Local Broadcast Signal Carriage Issues and Retransmission Consent Issues

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken steps to address local broadcast signal carriage issues and retransmission consent issues, as part of its efforts to complete the transition from analog to digital television. The FCC has amended its rules to require satellite carriers to carry digital-only stations and high-definition (HD) signals in markets where they are providing local-into-local service and HD signals are carried, respectively.
