FDA Requests Safety and Effectiveness Data for Sodium Shale Oil Sulfonate (SSOS) as an Over-the-Counter Treatment for Dandruff
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking additional data on sodium shale oil sulfonate (SSOS), a potential over-the-counter treatment for dandruff, as part of its ongoing review of over-the-counter (OTC) drug products. The FDA has determined that SSOS is eligible for consideration in its OTC drug monograph system and will evaluate the submitted data to determine its safety and effectiveness for use as a rinse-off treatment for dandruff.
