EPA Amends Regulation on Quaternary Ammonium Compounds for Food Contact Surfaces
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has amended a regulation to increase the allowable concentrations of quaternary ammonium compounds in solutions used on food contact surfaces, exempting them from the requirement of a tolerance under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The change, submitted by Lonza Inc., allows for higher concentrations of quaternary compounds in end-use products, up to 240 ppm of active quaternary ammonium compounds and 400 ppm of all quaternary chemicals in the solution.
