The U.S. Marine Corps has announced its intention to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to assess the potential environmental consequences of a plan to permanently assign approximately 9,900 additional Marines and support personnel at three installations in North Carolina: Camp Lejeune, New River Air Station, and Cherry Point Air Station. The proposed action includes incremental personnel increases at existing installations, with expected increases of 7,700 at Lejeune, 1,400 at New River, and 800 at Cherry Point by Fiscal Year 2011.
